A highly experienced team use state of the art design software. (ProENGINEER Wildfire and ProMechanica). The variety and pedigree of current product design is testimony to the capability available. This experience is accessible cross project. However, continuity of personnel on projects is maintained from concept to production. This ensures good customer links throughout the product lifecycle.
The department has expertise designing low mass systems and complex servo mechanisms packaged within tight space envelopes and subject to severe environments. Products range from helmet mounted optics for airborne applications (lens dia 25mm) to complex IR zoom systems (lens dia 250mm) for missile aiming. Materials range from exotic cast alloys to injection moulded composites.
Mechanical Analysis is carried out at the start of the mechanical design process, sufficiently early to influence the design concept. Full systems are modelled to provide theoretical predictions of line of sight performance for applied thermal, shock and vibrational loads. System modelling includes simulation of all components relative to the system response, inclusive of adhesive / potted joints, joint geometry, damping ratios and bearing stiffness.
Design data is managed utilising Windchill PDMLink, ensuring control throughout the complete manufacturing lifecycle.
